Officer Finn Holland:
I can’t get her out of my mind. In fact, I haven’t been able to get her off my mind since the night I pulled her from her car. It amazed me that she survived at all. Her will to live must be strong. Going through something like that, watching her best friend being sexually assaulted had to weigh heavy on her.
I clicked the pen in my left had with my thumb repetitively. Something about this case didn’t sit right with me. The perp came in with a gun yet the victim was stabbed multiple times. The blood on the knife matched two sets of DNA one belonged to Juliet, the other unknown.
The knife in question was left inside Juliet’s body, a disgusting act of violation. We know now that the knife was a gift given to Lennox from her father. We also know that the DNA left of the knife belongs to the fucker who did this. The question I keep going back to is, why he would switch to a knife, especially one that belonged to Lennox?
“Listen up!” Avery’s voice booms across the bullpen and I stop clicking my pen. “CSI has gotten back to us regarding Ms. Rose’s vehicle.” She pauses dramatically to make sure she has everyone’s attention. “Not only was the gas tank filled with water but they found a GPS tracker hidden under the driver’s seat of the car.”
“This wasn’t a random attack.” I finish and Avery glares at me. I try not to roll my eyes. This isn’t a contest but a crime.
“Unfortunately, Ms. Rose’s testimony wasn’t all that helpful so we are starting from ground zero. We will talk to the victims family and her other un-traumatized friends. See if we can’t retrace her movements.”
“I think we need to talk to Ms. Rose again.” I interrupt.
Avery scowls, “We will, but for right now I think we need to let her be and let her heal a bit more.”
“I don’t know — what if she was the target and not Juliet?” I interject again because it seems foolish to leave her unprotected.
“I agree, the GPS unit was found in Ms. Rose’s vehicle.” Johnson, a fellow detective on the case perks up.
“I’ll tell you what Holland, you want Ms. Rose, she’s yours.”
I give her a curt nod but don’t say any thing else. Avery thinks she has won the round but I know I am on to something. The prep used Lennox’s knife and made her watch while he attacked Juliet. The GPS was in her car…to me this seems personal. Whoever did this want’s Lennox Rose.
